I Listened to My Heart

This is my first ever blog and I confess to being nervous. My stomach is doing these funny little loop-d-loops as my hands shake a little bit at the nerve of me to think I can actually write a blog people would want to read.

At the same time, there’s a quickening in my heart that says “people need what you have to offer.” As I write this, tears form in my eyes, because it’s true. People need to know that their bodies are their greatest resource. I want you to know that your body is just waiting to help you better navigate your world and live the life you’ve always wanted to live. All you have to do is listen.

I’ll use this moment as an example. If I had only noticed the nervous stomach or shaking hands, I may have stopped typing and told myself no one will ever read this, why bother. But, when I also noticed the physical sensations in my heart, and listened to my heart’s message, I was compelled to continue, to not give up. My heart prompted me to step out in the world with my important message.

What is your heart saying to you right now? Take a moment to place your hands on your heart. Start first with physical sensations. What do you notice? What does your heart want you to know? to do? to be? Take good notes for your heart wants only the best for you.

I’d love to hear from you. You can share as much or as little as you’d like.

Until next time, be friends with your body!

Thank you for touching my heart with your tender and courageous heart. I appreciate your authentic expression and reminding me to listen to my heart. When I listened to my heart, I heard it say ‘thank you’ for all the ways I exercise it-physically, emotionally and spiritually. I could sense my heart resting in peace. I encourage you to keep sharing this much needed message. Much love, Theresa

Theresa, thank you so much for sharing your heart with us, and for your words of encouragement. I’ve hesitated to write a second blog because I’m afraid it won’t be as well received. And I know my message and heart are needed. Love, Joan

  • Kelly

Congratulations, Joan, on this first, and as they say, hardest step.
I especially appreciate your courage in expressing what might be considered negative emotions, something I sometimes find challenging while presenting myself as a support and counselor for others.

    • admin

Thank you so much, Kelly! I understand what you’re saying. I want to be seen as the “healer!”, not the wounded one. However, I believe it’s important that we all be able to express all of our emotions – that is the hallmark of being authentic. When I can express my full range of emotions, others feel empowered to do the same. To me, this is the journey – finding our authentic voice that just speaks the truth in every moment. With warmest regards, Joan

Joan, I am so proud of you that you took the first step in revealing what so people need to hear and do – listen to their body – this is a great opportunity for many to start to understand what we are talking about and how important the work that we do as Rubenfeld Synergist help individuals in their daily lives, especially those that their bodies are screaming at them!

    • admin

Janet, thank you so much! As both you and Lianda have pointed out, listening to our bodies can help prevent and/or reduce illness and disease. When we listen our bodies don’t have to scream at us to get our attention. With love, Joan

  • Patti McDougall

Joan, Thanks so much for the gentle reminder. My heart was actually a bit suprised when I put my hands there. “Hey, remember me?, Where you been?” it seemed to say. We have another ‘date’ for tommorow, and hopefully the day after that, and the day after that………

    • admin

Patti, It’s so good to hear from you. It sounds like your heart is also glad to hear from you. How easy it is to get caught up in our busy world and forget to check in with our greatest resource – our bodies. May you and heart have a life-long close relationship! Love, Joan

  • Lianda

Joan, you are so correct. Your body shows you the evidence of your subconscious and even conscious thoughts. Your body can’t lie – and that’s how Poker players read your “tell” and know if you are lying. Furthermore, when you ignore the signals that your body gives you about your emotions and thoughts not being in alignment, your symptoms can turn into pain and eventually illness. So these symptoms are actually telling you something, and it’s important to listen to your body “language”! Not only for personal relationships, but for business success as well!

    • admin

Hi, Linda. It sounds like you and I are singing from the same song book. Your right, our bodies are our best friends, in all aspects of our lives, from personal relationships to our health to business success. Thank you for taking the time to comment with such such wise words! Joan

  • Cindy Schulson

Congratulations Joan – for your courage in writing this post and in being honest about your fears in doing so. So many people share these fears and just by sharing in the way you did, you’re inspiring them to not only get in touch with their bodies but use their passion to help them move forward.

As I always say, people don’t just care what’s in your head, they care what’s in your heart. And based on the comments you’re getting, people care a lot about you!

    warm wishes,

    • admin

Cindy, thank you so much for comments here and on the TALI Facebook page. I’m really with the awareness that our passion give us the energy to move even in the face of fear and uncertainty. Of course, passion is stored in and expressed through the body. Listening to the body helps us to tap into that passion and use it move us forward. Joan

Joan, your words light a path. Pausing to listen, my eyes gaze out and catch the spiders’ threads on the bush, swaying in the breeze. Sunlight reflects in rainbows along them…and my brea(d)th expands! Your clear words, the response of others…I was now part of this web. Your gift, my eyes, my breath created more space for my sense of Vitality. Thanks, Joan the Lion-hearted!

Dearest Bonnie, what a beautiful and serene picture you paint with your words. And yes, taking time to listen to your heart does give more space, in both body and life! Love, Joan

Dearest Ilana, Your comment reminds me that the body’s messages change over time, sometimes in the space of a few minutes, so it’s important to tune in and listen, again and again. I hope your body’s messages are ones of appreciation for a life well lived and a future filled with beautiful music. Love, Joan

What a beautiful message and reminder to all of us to pay attention to the messages in our body. And especially, it is important to discover what is truly emanating from our heart.

    Dr. Erica

    • Joan

Thank you, Erica. Yes, listening to the heart is a sure-fire way to tap into the wisdom of the body.

  • Heather Skoll

My heart is racing with excitement as I read your blog! My fingers are excited too and want to tell you how much I appreciate your sharing of your body’s process as you wrote your first blog! Way to go. You did it despite the racing heart and nervous feelings and you also listened to your body’s messages the whole way along. I hope that the next blog is more easeful on your heart and stomach but I imagine that whatever emerges you will be listening!

    • Joan

Heather, yes, whatever emerges I will be listening. Fortunately, the voice that says the world needs your gifts and knowledge is louder than the one that says nobody will ever read this. I’ll just keeping listening to that one as it is expressed through my body.

Thank you for your excitement! Now, my body has “proof” that people will read my blog

  • Chris

Wow, Joan! I love that you wrote and what you wrote. As I am listening to my heart I feel a filling of love and appreciation for your courage to step out of fear and listen to the deeper and best rhythm: extending love and offerings that can help others to live easier and with more freedom. Your example clears a path for me to step out of fear and do what my heart”s yearnings are saying too.
    Thank you
    much love , Chris

    • Joan

Chris, I encourage you with love and my full support to step out. I KNOW the world needs and is just waiting for what you have to offer.

Here’s stepping out with you, kid!

  • Mark Griffith

This provided me with such an easy inviting reminder…to just stop the “doing” for a moment and pause. To place my hand on my heart and ask the sensation to inform me, bring awareness to my consciousness. Just this act of pausing and listening, taking all but a couple of minutes, brought serenity to this hour. Thanks, Joan

    • Joan

Mark, your comments and our conversation today sparked an idea for my next blog. Thank you for your support and for just being who you are.

  • Evelyn

My heart is saying, right on, Joan!! Thank you so much for offering this!!

    • Joan

Thank you, Evelyn, for your support and your love!

  • Andrea Silver

Great post, Joan! I love how you wrote it despite your fears. The simplicity is good and leaves me hungry for more. I look forward to learning from you about befriending my body and healing by mending my mind, body and spirit, and knitting them together as one into a soft, cozy blanket of comfort and warmth.

    • Joan

Andrea, What a wonderful image – a soft, cozy blanket of comfort and warmth. That is the feeling of being whole and healed in body, mind, emotions and spirit – a place of safety and peace.
